Ecobuild China: Why go to Shanghai?

Category: BIM

Eurobuild has a stand (W4E20) at the EcoDesign gallery in the enormous trade show SINOEXPO in Pudong area Shanghai and have been asked to give a presentation on innovative use of BIM at the conference on Tues 10th April.

Why China? During the 1980′s, China was one of the first developing nations to adopt country wide regulations to conserve energy in buildings. In 2011, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao unveiled the government’s draft 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015) with plans to cut energy consumption per unit of economic growth by 16% and to emit less carbon dioxide emissions per unit of economic growth by 17% respectively. These are immense targets if economic growth continues at over 7%.

China is an immensely innovative country and has invested more than any other country in renewable energy with over 50GW capacity. China has also spent 1.6% of GDP on research & development in 2011.

These targets and facts combine to form an interesting picture of the potential market for PassivHaus and low energy buildings.
